I picked up Dead in the Family this morning and engulfed this book in just a few hours. (It’s only 300 pgs) I love this series. I need to put that out there first as I have read this entire series and have been awaiting the arrival of this book for quite some time now.

I was able to skip the first five chapters of the book as they had been posted previously online for those of us that just couldn’t stand to wait any longer prior to its release.
The title is definitely a true to the story. This book is about family and bonds, from real family to blood bonds to the bonds and honor of the weres. Eric’s maker makes an appearance out of the blue turning Eric into a big blob of mush. He somehow loses all of his masculinity in this book. I must say as a lover of the tall viking vamp, I was saddened. I lost some respect for Eric in this book although, he wasn’t really around that much.
The story was weird for me. The story was jumbled. So much going on, so much interaction but not all of it was relevant in any way. I wish Charlaine had chosen to up the page count and give us more as I was left with a lot of “um okay, and how does this matter?” I missed the in depth interaction of character.
I still love this series but this is definitely not my favorite. I hope that the next book gives us a little bit more. I want the interaction of characters that I have come to love. Not jumbled storylines.
I guess if I had to rate this book.. 4 out of 5 stars.. maybe that’s pushing it.
